Google TV Streamer is here – This is what you need to know about the newest smart hub
The Google TV Streamer is the most recent smart hub by Google. Officially announced as the replacement for the Chromecast TV 4k and HD, this upgraded streaming device will run you twice as much at around the $99 price tag. Google is touting this as their next smart hub, to help bring their smart products into one central unit. Let’s take a look at some first impression of the newest device
What comes with the Google TV Streamer
In the box you will get everything you need to get started.
- Google TV Streamer
- AC Adapter
- Long USB – C Cord
- Upgraded Chromecast TV Remote
The Google TV Streamer has an Ethernet port, HDMI out and a USB Power port. Unfortunately no extra data transfer ports are included. The only way to add a USB drive or connect something is via an OTG cable.
Upgraded Remote for the Google TV Streamer
The new remote that comes with the Google TV Streamer is around an inch longer and includes a few extra button. The volume up and down button has been moved to the front of the remote instead of the side. Overall holds a lot better then the older version, much more comfortable.
Specifications of the Google TV Streamer
The Google TV Streamer has top of the line specs competitive with other devices in it’s price range. Where the Google TV Streamer should excel is the integration of various smart products via matter compatibility. It is also the first device to run Android tv 14 on a Google TV device, bringing all new AI features.
- Resolution up to 4K with HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision
- Dolby Atmos Audio
- 32GB of Storage
- Memory 4GB
First Impressions of the Google TV Streamer
The easiest way to label this device is as a faster Chromecast TV, other then that it is essentially the same. In fact, even older Chromecast TV models are getting updated to Android TV 14 which means they will have most of the same features. The biggest difference is the Google TV Streamer now has matter and thread compatibility. Together these two additions make your device react quicker to smart device requests and compatible across a wide variety.
This is a solid new open, however the price makes it a little more difficult to pounce on this offer. I would still typically take a Fire TV Cube over the Google TV Streamer in most cases.
