Apple doesn’t allow Kodi in the official App Store, so getting it onto an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV means installing it outside the App Store – a process Apple refers to as sideloading. It’s more involved than an Android install, but entirely doable without jailbreaking.

The Easiest Method: AltStore

AltStore is a free, well-established sideloading tool that lets you install apps like Kodi outside the App Store using your own Apple ID, no jailbreak required.

  1. Install AltStore on a Mac or Windows PC from altstore.io, and install the AltStore companion app on your iOS device by connecting it to that computer.
  2. Download the current Kodi .ipa file from the official Kodi site (kodi.tv/download) under the iOS section.
  3. Open AltStore on your device, go to the “My Apps” tab, tap the + button, and select the Kodi .ipa file.
  4. Sign in with your Apple ID when prompted – AltStore uses this to sign the app for your device.
  5. Kodi will appear on your home screen like any other app. Free Apple ID sideloads need to be re-signed roughly every 7 days, which AltStore can do automatically if your device stays connected to Wi-Fi near your computer periodically.

Installing on Apple TV

Apple TV sideloading works similarly but requires a Mac running Xcode to build and deploy the Kodi app directly to the Apple TV over your local network. This is the most technical of the install methods covered here – if you’re not comfortable with Xcode, installing Kodi on a Fire TV Stick or Android TV box and connecting that to your TV instead is a much simpler path to the same result.
