Display Type Settings on Roku

Adjusting your Resolution based on your TV’s capabilities is very important on your Roku device. In this section we will be taking a look at the Display type setting. This will allow you to choose what resolution you want your device to display on your tv. Roku has many 4K devices packed with Dolby Vision, however some devices are capped at 1080p.\

Where to Adjust Resolution on Roku Streaming Devices

From your home screen, scroll down until you find Settings.

Press to the right and scroll down until you find Display Type Settings.

Adjusting Resolution on your Roku device

The default option will typically be set to automatic. This is probably the best overall option. It will automatically read what your TV is capable of outputting. You can see on my device, despite being capable of 4K, my tv is capped at 1080p. So resolution states (automatic, 1080p).

For times when the Roku streaming device is reading your monitor wrong, scroll down and you can automatically change the output. In this case Roku says my monitor is not capable of Dolby Vision or 4K, which is correct.

In this case I can still select it, however it can mess up my viewing experience. You can always come back and change up the setting at any time.
