An app that keeps closing itself, freezing on a loading screen, or stuttering during playback is one of the most common Firestick complaints — and usually one of the easiest to fix.

Quick Fixes to Try First

  1. Close and reopen the app by pressing the Home button, then opening it again from the home screen.
  2. Restart your Firestick from Settings, then My Fire TV, then Restart — this alone fixes the majority of app freezing issues by clearing out memory.
  3. Check for an app update under Settings, then Applications, then Appstore, then My Stuff, since outdated app versions are a frequent cause of crashes.

Clear the App’s Cache and Data

  1. Go to Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications.
  2. Select the app that’s giving you trouble.
  3. Choose Clear Cache first and see if that resolves it. If not, try Clear Data, which resets the app completely (you may need to sign back in afterward).

If Nothing Else Works

Uninstall and reinstall the app entirely from the Appstore — this replaces every file associated with it and resolves most corruption issues that clearing cache and data can’t fix. If the problem happens across multiple different apps rather than just one, your Firestick may be low on storage; check available space under Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and clear out unused apps if it’s nearly full.
