Firestick No Signal or Black Screen: How to Fix It
A “No Signal” message or a completely black screen is usually an HDMI or power issue rather than a problem with the Firestick’s software — that sets it apart from a device that won’t turn on at all or gets stuck on the Amazon logo, which is a separate issue. Work through these checks in order.
Check the Basics First
- Confirm your TV is set to the correct HDMI input — this is by far the most common cause and is easy to overlook.
- Check that the Firestick’s power cable is fully plugged into both the device and a working power source, ideally the included adapter rather than a TV’s USB port.
- Look for a small light on the Firestick itself; if it’s on, the device has power even if the TV shows nothing.
Try a Different HDMI Port or Cable
- Unplug the Firestick from its current HDMI port.
- Plug it into a different HDMI port on your TV, if one is available.
- Change the TV’s input to match the new port and check if the picture returns.
- If you have a spare HDMI extender cable, try connecting the Firestick to a different TV entirely to test it.
Power-Cycle Everything
- Unplug the Firestick from power for 30 seconds.
- Turn your TV completely off, then unplug it for the same amount of time.
- Plug the TV back in first and turn it on, then plug the Firestick back in.
- Give the Firestick a full minute to boot before checking for a picture.
When It’s Likely a TV Issue, Not the Firestick
If you’ve tried a different HDMI port and cable and still see nothing, test the Firestick on a second TV if you have access to one. If it works fine there, the issue is with your original TV’s HDMI port rather than the Firestick itself, and it may be worth having the TV looked at.
If the Firestick shows no light at all and nothing above helps, it’s likely a hardware or power adapter failure, and Amazon customer support can advise on a replacement, especially if the device is still under warranty.
