Whether you’re using your TV’s built-in speakers, a soundbar, or a full home theater receiver, your Firestick’s audio settings control how sound is formatted before it leaves the device.

Where to Find Audio Settings

Go to Settings, then Display & Sounds, then Audio.

Choosing the Right Audio Format

  • Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby Atmos, if you have a compatible soundbar or receiver, delivers surround sound with the widest compatibility across streaming apps.
  • Stereo (2.0) is the safest choice if you’re using your TV’s built-in speakers, since it avoids compatibility issues that can cause dropped or distorted audio through basic speakers.
  • Auto Audio Detection lets your Firestick automatically pick the best supported format for whatever’s connected, which works well for most setups.

Other Useful Audio Options

  • Dialogue Boost increases the volume of speech relative to background music and effects, useful if you find yourself constantly reaching for the volume button during action scenes.
  • Audio Description adds a narration track describing on-screen visuals, found under Settings, then Accessibility, for content that supports it.

If you’re hearing no sound at all or audio cutting in and out, try switching the audio format to Stereo temporarily — if that fixes it, the issue is usually a format mismatch with your soundbar or receiver rather than a problem with the Firestick itself.
