How to Adjust Closed Captions and Subtitles Settings on Firestick
Firestick lets you turn on captions system-wide and customize exactly how they look, so you don’t have to dig through each individual app’s settings separately.
Turning On Captions
- Go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Captions.
- Turn the Captions toggle on.
- Captions will now appear by default in apps that support the system-wide setting — though some apps use their own separate caption toggle instead.
Customizing How Captions Look
- Adjust text size and font style to make captions easier to read from a distance.
- Change text and background color, including adding a solid background box for better contrast against bright scenes.
- Choose a preset style like High Contrast if you’d rather not configure each option individually.
A Quick Remote Shortcut
You can also just say “Turn on subtitles” or “Turn off captions” into your Alexa Voice Remote while something is playing, which is often faster than navigating through the settings menu.
