Your Firestick automatically detects the best resolution for your TV, but it’s worth double-checking these settings if picture quality looks off, or if you’ve swapped TVs and the display never re-adjusted.

Where to Find Display Settings

Go to Settings, then Display & Sounds, then Display. From here you can adjust resolution, video range, and match settings.

Setting the Right Resolution

  • Select Resolution and choose Auto-Adjust Display so your Firestick matches whatever content you’re playing, or manually lock it to your TV’s native resolution (1080p or 4K) if you notice flickering when switching between apps.
  • Turn on Match Original Frame Rate so movies filmed at 24fps play back smoothly instead of at your TV’s default refresh rate.
  • If your TV and Firestick both support it, enable HDR under Video Range so compatible content plays with a wider range of color and contrast.

Fixing Common Display Problems

If the picture looks stretched, cropped, or the wrong colors, try setting resolution back to Auto-Adjust Display first, since most display issues sort themselves out once the Firestick renegotiates with your TV. If you can’t see the settings menu at all because the resolution is set too high for your TV to display, hold the Back button and the Right button on the remote together for about 10 seconds — this automatically resets the video resolution to a safe default.
