Every Firestick has built-in Bluetooth, which means you can pair headphones for private listening or connect a Bluetooth soundbar or speaker without running extra cables. The pairing process is nearly identical for both.

Pairing Bluetooth Headphones

  1. Put your headphones into pairing mode, usually by holding their power or Bluetooth button until a light starts flashing.
  2. On your Firestick, go to Settings, then Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
  3. Select Other Bluetooth Devices, then Add Bluetooth Devices.
  4. Select your headphones from the list once they appear, and wait for the connection to confirm.

Connecting a Soundbar or Bluetooth Speaker

The steps are nearly identical, though most soundbars also offer a wired connection that’s worth considering.

  1. Put your soundbar or speaker into pairing mode using its remote or a button on the unit — check the manual if you’re not sure which one.
  2. Follow the same Settings, then Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, then Other Bluetooth Devices path as above.
  3. Select your soundbar from the list to connect it.

If your soundbar supports HDMI ARC or eARC, connecting it directly to your TV instead usually gives more reliable audio and avoids Bluetooth lag entirely.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth Audio Issues

  • Audio lagging behind video is a known limitation of some Bluetooth headphones — look for a “low latency” or “game mode” setting on the headphones themselves.
  • If the connection keeps dropping, try forgetting the device under Other Bluetooth Devices and pairing it again from scratch.
  • A Firestick can only stream audio to one Bluetooth device at a time, so make sure a phone or other gadget isn’t already connected to it.
  • Keep the area around the Firestick’s HDMI port open rather than tucked tightly behind a TV, since a blocked antenna can weaken the signal.

Bluetooth pairing on a Firestick rarely requires more than the steps above, and once a device has been paired once, it should reconnect automatically the next time you turn it on.
