HDMI-CEC lets compatible devices connected to the same TV talk to each other over the HDMI cable — turn on the TV and your Firestick powers on with it, and in some cases you can even control basic Firestick navigation from your TV’s own remote.

Turning On HDMI-CEC on Your Firestick

  1. Go to Settings, then Display & Sounds, then HDMI-CEC Device Control.
  2. Turn on HDMI Control.
  3. Optionally enable One Touch Play, which automatically switches your TV to the correct input and turns it on when the Firestick wakes up.

Turning On CEC on Your TV

Your TV needs its own CEC setting enabled too, and every manufacturer names it differently — look for Anynet+ (Samsung), Bravia Sync (Sony), SimpLink (LG), or just “HDMI-CEC” under your TV’s general or connection settings. Both the TV and Firestick need CEC turned on for any of this to work.

What to Expect and Troubleshooting

CEC support varies quite a bit by TV brand and age — some TVs will let you fully navigate Fire TV menus with the TV remote, while others only support power and input switching. If it’s not working, double check both settings are on, try a different HDMI port (CEC support isn’t always consistent across all ports on a TV), and restart both devices after enabling it.
