How to Set a Sleep Timer and Manage Power Settings on Firestick
Firestick includes a few settings that control how it behaves when you’re not actively using it — useful for saving power, falling asleep to a show, or just making the device feel a bit snappier.
How to Set a Sleep Timer
Fire TV doesn’t have a single universal sleep timer that works across every app — instead, check the app you’re watching from, since most major streaming apps (like YouTube and some others) include their own built-in sleep timer under their playback or settings menu. Alternatively, you can ask Alexa directly: “Alexa, set a sleep timer for 30 minutes” will turn off the screen after the time you specify.
Adjusting Screensaver and Standby Timing
- Go to Settings, then Display & Sounds, then Screensaver.
- Set Start Time to control how long the device sits idle before the screensaver kicks in.
- Set Turn Off Display to control when the TV screen itself goes dark after further inactivity, which is separate from the screensaver timer.
Sleep and Power Behavior
Your Firestick automatically enters a low-power sleep state after extended inactivity rather than fully shutting down, which is why it wakes up almost instantly when you press a remote button. There’s no need to unplug it between uses — leaving it plugged in lets it install updates overnight and keeps your apps ready to launch quickly.
