Your Firestick is tied to whichever Amazon account you’re signed into — that’s what controls which apps, purchases, and Alexa settings show up. Whether you’re setting up a new Firestick or handing an old one off to someone else, here’s how to sign in or switch accounts.

How to Check Which Account You’re Signed Into

Go to Settings, then My Account. Your Amazon account name and email will be listed at the top of the screen.

How to Switch to a Different Amazon Account

  1. Go to Settings, then My Account, then Deregister.
  2. Confirm that you want to deregister the device. This signs the Firestick out but doesn’t erase your installed apps or settings.
  3. The device will restart and prompt you to sign in again — enter the email and password for the account you want to use instead.
  4. Once signed in, your apps, purchases, and Alexa settings will reflect the new account.

Using Profiles Instead of Switching Accounts

If you just want separate watchlists and recommendations for different people in your household, you likely don’t need to sign out at all — Fire TV Profiles let multiple people share one Firestick under the same Amazon account, each with their own personalized home screen.

Giving Away or Selling Your Firestick

Before handing off a Firestick to someone else, deregister your account and consider doing a factory reset from Settings, then My Fire TV, then Reset to Factory Defaults. This removes your personal account, installed apps, and saved Wi-Fi passwords so the next person starts with a clean device.
