Keeping apps updated automatically means fewer bugs, faster performance, and one less thing to think about. Here’s where to control that setting, plus how to check for updates manually.

Turning On Automatic Updates

  1. Go to Settings, then Applications, then Appstore.
  2. Turn on Automatic Updates.
  3. Apps will now update in the background, typically overnight while the device is idle and connected to Wi-Fi.

Updating Apps Manually

If you’d rather stay in control of when updates happen, leave automatic updates off and instead open the Appstore, go to My Stuff or Your Apps, and check for anything marked Update. This is also useful if you want to force an update on a specific app right away instead of waiting for the background process.

Keeping Fire OS Itself Updated

This setting only controls individual apps — the Fire OS system software updates separately and automatically by default. You can check your current version or manually trigger a check under Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, then Check for Updates.
