How to Turn On Two-Step Verification for Your Amazon Account
Since your Firestick is tied directly to your Amazon account, it’s worth taking a minute to add two-step verification, which protects that account — and anything purchased or stored on it — from being accessed if your password is ever compromised.
What Two-Step Verification Does
Once enabled, signing into your Amazon account from a new device requires both your password and a one-time code sent to your phone or generated by an authenticator app. This is set up through Amazon’s account settings rather than on the Firestick itself.
How to Turn It On
- On a phone or computer, go to amazon.com and sign into Login & Security under Your Account.
- Select Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings, then Get Started.
- Choose to receive codes via text message or an authenticator app, and follow the prompts to confirm.
What This Means for Your Firestick
Your Firestick itself doesn’t need to be re-verified constantly — once it’s signed in, it stays signed in. You’ll only be prompted for a verification code again if you sign out and back in, or sign into a new device for the first time, which is exactly when that extra layer of protection matters most.
