Amazon regularly rolls out Fire OS updates that patch security issues, improve performance, and keep your apps compatible with the latest streaming platforms. Knowing your current version helps you confirm whether an update is available.

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select My Fire TV.
  3. Select About.
  4. Your current Fire OS software version and build number are listed here.

How to Manually Check for and Install Updates

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings, then My Fire TV.
  2. Select About, then select Check for Updates.
  3. If an update is available, select Install Update.
  4. Your Firestick will download the update, then restart automatically to finish installing it.

What to Do If Updates Won’t Install

A stalled or failed update is usually caused by one of the following.

  • Your Firestick isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, or the connection is too weak to complete the download.
  • There isn’t enough free storage on the device — try clearing cache or uninstalling unused apps first.
  • The Firestick has been left on the update screen for too short a time; some updates can take 10 minutes or more.
  • A quick restart (unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in) often clears a stuck update check.

Falling multiple versions behind can eventually cause streaming apps to stop working properly or lose support altogether, so it’s worth checking for updates every few months even if you haven’t noticed any problems.
