Max (formerly HBO Max) has expanded to 100+ countries and now bundles select live sports into its higher tiers. Here’s what each plan costs and what you actually get.
What Is Max?
Max is Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming service, combining HBO’s prestige original series (Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus) with the Warner Bros. film catalog, DC content, and – on higher tiers – select live sports like NHL, MLB, and NCAA games.
Max Plans & Pricing
Max runs three tiers, each with a monthly or annual option (annual saves about 16%):
Max: Channels & Content
Max’s biggest draw is HBO’s original programming, widely considered some of the best scripted TV being made, plus the Warner Bros. movie catalog and DC’s film and TV universe. Standard and Premium subscribers also get select live sports bundled in – a notable shift from Max’s original on-demand-only positioning.

Where Is Max Available?
Max is live in 100+ countries and territories across the Americas, Europe, Central Asia, and Asia-Pacific, following a major international expansion through 2025 and 2026. It’s still not available everywhere Netflix is.
How to Watch Max Outside the United States
Max’s original catalog and live sports rights are licensed on a country-by-country basis, so what you can watch changes depending on where you’re connecting from. A VPN lets you reconnect to your home region’s version of Max while traveling.
- Sign up for IPVanish (link includes our exclusive discount)
- Download and install the IPVanish app on your phone, streaming device, or router
- Open the app and connect to a VPN server in the United States
- Open or sign up for Max and start streaming as if you were in the United States
Is Max Worth It?
If HBO’s original series are what you’re after, Max is worth it on its own – the Premium tier’s 4K and live sports make it competitive with pricier live-TV bundles. The Basic with Ads tier is a fine budget option if you just want the shows and don’t care about 4K.
