Getting Started With Any Onn Device

Every current Onn device (aside from the HD Stick) sets up the same way, whether it’s a stick or a box:

1. Plug the device into an open HDMI port — use the included extender cable if the port is recessed or wall-mounted.
2. Connect the power adapter to a wall outlet. Most Onn devices won’t power reliably off a TV’s USB port.
3. Switch your TV to that HDMI input and follow the on-screen prompt to pair the remote.
4. Select your language, connect to Wi-Fi, and sign in with a Google account.
5. Install your streaming apps from the setup wizard, or skip ahead and add them later from the Play Store.

Which Onn Should You Buy?

If you’re just replacing an old 1080p TV’s streaming stick and price is everything, the HD Stick is the cheapest option Walmart sells. For a 4K TV, skip straight to the 4K Plus — it’s usually the same price as the 4K Stick but adds Dolby Vision and double the storage, which makes it the best value in the lineup. Heavy sideloaders and anyone who wants a wired Ethernet connection should go straight to the 4K Pro 2, Walmart’s flagship. The original 4K Box is still around and still fine, but the newer 4K Stick and 4K Plus have mostly replaced it at a similar price.

Onn vs. Fire TV vs. Roku

Onn devices run Google TV (Android TV on the HD Stick), which means access to the full Google Play Store, Chromecast built in, and easy sideloading with apps like Downloader. That’s the main thing that sets it apart from a Fire TV or Roku device, both of which run more locked-down operating systems built around their own app stores. For the price, no Fire TV or Roku model matches the 4K Plus or 4K Pro 2’s combination of specs and HDR support.
