Brand New Fire TV OS on the Horizon

Amazon has developed a major arsenal of smart tv products based on their Fire tv OS. The major problem? Fire tv OS is an Android based operating system, making them a direct competitor to Google OS which is quite a few years ahead. With Amazon seemingly wanting to enter more Smart markets such as Phones, tablets and vehicle interfaces, their own Operating system could be valuable.

Code Name: Vega – The New Fire TV OS

Reports from Lowpass.cc show that Amazon has been working on this OS since 2017. Just last year an Amazon Employee wrote in an tech forum that Amazon is building “iOS / Android Competitor for all devices”. Apparently this operating system is all but complete and ready to launch, however they are still working on convincing major developers to create apps for it.

The Issue with a New OS

I am personally a big fan of competition, especially with OS. However, fire tv devices are already widely established. There is a wide array of apps that can both be officially installed or side loaded. Creating a new OS not based on Android means developers will need to fully create new framework for their applications. Users can also expect side loading to be limited for at least a portion of time.

However a new OS could also mean big things in the future. It is unlikely that older devices would update to the new OS (Or impossible). Only time will tell how Amazon plans on tackling this change or if they decide to scrap it all together.
