The Mi Stick and Box Remote has issues

The Xiaomi Stick and box – more popularly known as the Mi device. Is a simple streaming device typically a level below Nvidia, Firestick and Google Chromecast products. However it still runs official Android TV and can do most of the same things. One unfortunate side is the device comes with a poor quality remote which sometimes has pairing issues. I have compiled a list of steps to fix your Mi remote down below.

Step #1 – Check your batteries

Yes, this might seem like the simplest step, however you would be surprised how often people miss this. With most devices being rechargeable now, stock remotes still typically use batteries. Removing the batteries for a short period of time or completely changing them can fix a bunch of basic issues.

  • Remove your batteries for at least 30 seconds
  • Either put in the old ones or brand new ones
  • If still is not working try new ones
  • Still having issues? Move to step 2

Step #2 – Un-pair and Re-pair your Mi remote

If your remote is still not working there is a button combination that we can try to get things going. Follow the steps below to un pair and then re pair your Mi remote.

  • Hold down the Mi button (also shown as a bunch of little boxes) and the Home button at the same time
  • Keep these held down for at least 10 seconds
  • A Pairing screen will pop up
  • Follow the prompts to re-pair your remote

Step #3 – All hope is lost… Get a new Remote
