2023 was a huge year for Netflix. Not only did they implement password sharing restrictions, but they also removed the basic tier. This forced users to either choose between ads or paying even more for a subscription. Now in 2024 the media giant is looking to make another increase in their already pricey subscription.

Netflix Price Increases in Recent Years

On October 2023, Netflix had a basic plan price of only $8.99. This included unlimited viewing with no ads integrated into the content. 3 years later, users need to pay nearly $11.99 for the same service, or save $1 and watch content with ads. Now, to be fair most subscription services see increases every few years, however now it seems Netflix will be looking at yearly changers.

2023 was already extremely profitable for Netflix, the streaming giant also saw a steady increase in subscriptions. Netflix has again gained a a forceful control of the streaming market, making them a force to be reckoned with again.

Rumour has it, Netflix will increase all their tier prices again in 2024. It seems Millionaire executives aren’t satisfied with the hefty profits they see already. With the growing concern of illegal streaming becoming wide spread, it seems a price increase may only hurt that cause. When Netflix makes increases it is typically followed with competition doing the same.
